Pope Benedict XVI

My caricature of Pope Benedict XVI who died on the 31st of December 2022. Joseph Ratzinger became head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of the Vatican City state in 2005 and resigned in 2013. This was very unusual that a Pope resigns. The first Pope resignation since 1415 and the first on a pops initiative since 1294! A great movie to watch is The Two Popes played by Anthony Hophins and Jonathan Pryce, that portrays the long duscussions of the two popes and their contrasting ideas for the future of the Catholic Church. Brilliantly acted.
